Social Inclusion

BBC1 Flowerpot Gang

A number of the Community Trust staff helped the BBC1 team (including Anneka Rice, Phil Tufnell and Joe Swift), to refurbish the Bridge Learning Campus Student Support Centre gardens. The BLC helps students excluded from mainstream schools, while those at New Fosseway School (adjacent to BLC) work with children who have severe learning difficulties.

On Target

The Community Trust is involved in an Estates based Community project called On Target. Based at South Bristol Sports Centre, City Academy and Abbeywood School. The programme works with eight-18 year olds on a Friday evening from 5-7pm. The scheme works with over 250 young people, with an opportunity for older participants to be signposted towards referee and coaching courses. The programme seeks to raise aspirations, reduce absenteeism, increase school attainment and reduce anti-soical behaviour by providing meaninful diversionary activity. The Trust are in the process of securing funding to see the continuation of this scheme which has been highlighted on BBC 1 through the Late Kick-Off programme.
