History of the Club
Bristol City FC became the first professional football club to tie up with the FA National Futsal League in the 2014/15 season.
The club’s Community Trust worked closely with the University of Bath Futsal Club, which was later renamed Bristol City Futsal Club ahead of the 2014/15 season where the side competed in the FA National Futsal League Midlands Division One.
This season, the club will compete in the FA National Super League South.
Matthew Croft was appointed Bristol City Futsal Club’s manager in December 2014, signing a two-and-a-half year contract.
Croft has a substantial amount of experience in Futsal, having started his career playing for Cardiff Cymru in the FA National League from 2010-2012.
Matt then transferred to play for Cardiff City Futsal Club and had a brilliant year with the club in the 2012/13 season. The team were highly successful and Matt got the opportunity to compete in the Uefa Futsal Cup.
In 2013/14 Croft then moved from being a player to a manager. Matt managed the Cardiff City Futsal Club in the 2013/14 season in the Welsh League before signing as manager of Bristol City Futsal Club in 2014.
The 2015/16 season will see Bristol City Futsal Club play all their home fixtures at SGS Arena (New Road, Stoke Gifford, Bristol, BS34 8LP).
Capacity: SGS Arena has a capacity of 500 people.
Facilities: SGS Arena caters for all needs. The arena has a carpark for fans, along with disabled bays for those who require them. Inside the arena there is pull-out seating for spectators and there is also disabled access to the court. There is changing rooms for both home and away team’s and the referee, whilst refreshments are available to spectators throughout the fixtures.
For the home fixtures throughout the 2015/16 season, Bristol City Futsal Club will wear a red faded shirt, featuring the sponsorship of ASM Scaffolding on the front, and Everyone Active on the reverse. The shorts are plain white, which are sponsored by Elmtree Garden Contractors, whilst the socks are a traditional Bristol City red.
Bristol City Futsal Club’s away strip features a white shirt, with a purple and lime trimming. In-line with the home strip, ASM Scaffolding’s logo will feature on the front of the shirt, whilst Everyone Active will feature on the reverse. The shorts will be black and again sponsored by Elmtree Garden Contractors, with socks in white.
Players to watch
Ian Parkes – Ian is an England international Futsal player, who has superb technical ability. Over the summer, Ian signed a contract extension, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2016 – much to the delight of everyone associated with Bristol City Futsal Club.
Gary Bell – Gary is one of the youngest players representing the club and is a young English talent having worked his way through the Bristol City Futsal academy. In the off-season Gary was another player to be offered a contract extension. Having committed to the club, Gary is contracted with the club until the summer of 2016. Gary is an athletic individual, who has great stamina and is quick to move around the court. He is great defensively and also one for defenders to fear when he attacks.
Dean Maynard – Dean is a Welsh international who signed for the club in the summer. Dean has a lot of experience within the game and has proven to be a real threat. The diversity within his game enables him to excel and he is expected to have a highly successful season ahead of him.
Jonny Nelson – Jonny is another Welsh international who arrived at the club in the summer. Jonny was a star in the 2013/14 season and attracted a lot of interest from a number of clubs. He is a quick, powerful and dedicated player but unfortunately spent much of last season out of action with a long-term injury. However, he is hoping to rediscover his form through this move and he is set to be a real asset to the Bristol City Futsal team in the coming season.
Having seen the squad change a considerable amount during the course of the closed season, Matthew Croft didn’t had much time to spend with his newly formed team. Nevertheless, Croft is still expecting a promising season for the club.
